This very pleasant and relaxed sailing adventure is the
perfect way to spend an afternoon for one or two couples. We set sail immediately after departing the dock at Tijax on the
28’ Herreshoff Ketch “POC”, once the sails are tuned adjusted we
sail downwind under the Rio Dulce bridge onto the the San Felipe Bay past
the fort and into the Izabal Lake proper.
Sailing past the fort reminds
one of the old days of the Pirates when they slipped under the cannons and
over the chains that closed the entrance to the Lake. After a few runs abeam we usually find a secluded bay for a swim
and a snack of cheese and wine or beer until sunset at which time se reset
sails and tack upwind to Tijax as the light go on in the village and the
bridge….Expect to see gorgeous sunsets and spectacular moonrises as well
as rainbows and unusual cloud formations..
Do not forget your swim gear,
tanning lotion, and camera….
